ABOUT US
OUR HISTORY
Revive Community development is a community interest company, established in 2015. It was set up by an unemployed volunteer who was given the opportunity to set up a new project called the Step Up Initiative funded through the ESF in partnership with a health and social care organisation.
The Step Up Initiative project was launched in September 2014 after identifying certain barriers to employment that was highlighted in a survey conducted with the general public. Barriers such as:
* being a single parent
* lacking work experience
* being from a minority group
* inadequate communication skills
* having a learning disabilities
* lack of qualifications
The project supported people aged 19+ whom were considered as “hard to reach “to gain a greater opportunity of finding employment from the following groups:
* Women
* People with learning or physical difficulties
* Over 50’s
* Lone Parents
* BAME
The project ended in May 2015 and was able to give 33 people that “Step Up” to bring them closer to employment through training, access to courses, work experience, volunteering and practical support. We adapt a holistic approach by considering the whole person and not just focusing on their ability to find employment. Our service meets the needs of the person rather than providing a service that people have to fit into.
The legacy of the Step Up Initiative was the formulation of Revive Community Development CIC, it’s volunteering and work experience agency and range of health and wellbeing services
Rudolph Boon - Project Co-ordinator
My Story
After finishing University and having a lifelong goal, I found myself aged 58 on the dole for 7 months. Being undaunted I decide to volunteer within a health and social care organisation, in 2013, assisting in various activities and providing admin support at a local day centre.
I was asked to become a Volunteer Co-ordinator on a voluntary basis within the same organisation in 2014. I was able to see the possibility of helping other volunteers to improve their lives and circumstances through training, placement and eventually employment.
Due to a successful grant application to the European Social Fund to help people back into work I was given the opportunity to set up a new project called the Step Up Initiative in partnership with Moreland Trust Health and Social Care. My post of Project Co-ordinator is funded through the ESF grant until 31 May 2015 which has motivated me to set up my own business called Revive Community Development. I am living proof that volunteering can open doors for someone who is considered “hard to reach” and that it is never too late to achieve your goals with the right support and guidance”.
